Move to safety and call 911

If you can, move off the road or get yourself to a safe area. If someone is injured or the vehicles pose a safety hazard, call 911. For non-emergency crashes, use our Chattanooga Directory of Non-Emergency Phone Numbers.

Exchange information

Talk with the other drivers in the crash. Write down their driver’s license number and insurance information, or take a picture of their license and insurance card. If there are other witnesses, ask for their contact information and document what they saw.

Document the accident

If you can safely take pictures, use your phone to capture images of the entire scene, damage to all vehicles involved, damage to other property, and pictures of any skid marks. Sometimes other property is damaged and it is worth taking pictures of any related damage.

Call a tow truck

In the case of minor accidents or non-injury situations, the police may not come to the scene. It is in your best interest to select your preferred tow truck company from our local tow truck directory. We recommend contacting one that is near you for faster response.

Contact your insurance company

When you get home, contact your insurance company to report the accident.
